Description

The Cyber Security Intern plays an essential role in supporting the security of industrial control systems for the electric grid within the GSOC. The intern will be involved in the first line of defense against security threats under the guidance of experienced cybersecurity professionals. The Cyber Security Intern should demonstrate a strong interest in learning technical and analytical skills, as well as an ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

As a Cyber Security Intern for Security Operations at GSOC, you will be responsible for supporting our cyber mission, including but not limited to gaining an understanding and assisting with cyber programs such as security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, device and data protection, system administration, physical security controls and Critical Infrastructure Protection CIP compliance program.

Job Duties:

  • Support and learn from experienced cyber security engineers, developers, and analysts.
  • Assist with cyber programs such as security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, device and data protection, system administration, physical security controls and Critical Infrastructure Protection CIP compliance program.
  • Assist in developing cyber security program documentation, including policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and other documentation as needed.
  • Help provide regular reports and updates to management on the status of security and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field of study. Students must have a minimum 2.8 GPA and have completed at least 2 semesters of college level coursework prior to the start of the internship.

Experience: No professional work experience required.

Specialized Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, time management skills, hands-on experience with technology, and ability to work in a professional environment. Must be able to pass a NERC CIP personnel risk assessment screening.
