As an engineer for Georgia System Operations Corporation GSOC, a member of the electric utility industry, you will support the GSOC System Control Center SCC by providing expertise in the following areas:
- Ensure one-line diagrams are accurate and relay data sheets/operating instructions are up-to-date.
- Analyze forced outages and significant events
- Provide engineering support to the GSOC Operators.
Depending on seniority level, you will be expected to provide technical recommendations and detailed presentations on Integrated Transmission System operations, switching issues, and SCADA requirements to all levels of GSOC and other business partners. The successful engineer will learn and understand engineering standards, NERC Reliability Standards, and security standards of the Integrated Transmission System of Georgia. From that knowledge, you will create and/or modify GSOC guidelines, procedures, and policies to support the GSOC SCC.
As a representative of GSOC Operations, you will coordinate with various departments on:
- Outages and operating conditions
- SCADA Alarm Issues
- Equipment mis-operations
- Metering issues
- RTU end to end testing
Education
Bachelor Degree in Engineering or a related field
Experience
Senior Engineer: 6-9 years engineering experience in supporting transmission control room operations in an electric utility company or in an engineering position performing planning, design, protection & controls, or project management for transmission or distribution systems. Should be knowledgeable in most of the following areas: ECS network modeling and applications, NERC standards relating to transmission planning and operation, switching practices, substation design practices, system protection and control, project management practices, SCADA systems.
Principal Engineer: At least ten years of experience in the electric utility industry as outlined above for the Senior level. Experience could include Transmission Planning, Protection, Relaying, or Field Test Engineering.
Equivalent Experience
Senior: Bachelor Degree in Engineering or a related field with five years engineering experience in one or more of the above stated areas and an additional five years of experience in other electric utility related areas.
Principal: Bachelor Degree in Engineering or a related field with five years engineering experience in one or more of the above stated areas and an additional ten years of experience in other electric utility related areas.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
EIT or PE certification desired but not required. Must be certified or become certified in 6 months to perform switching on the ITS and maintain an adequate level of competence. Must obtain and maintain Bulk Electric System Cyber Authorized Status as defined in GSOC's CIP Cyber Security Policy 301 and NERC Reliability Standard CIP 004 - Personnel Risk Assessment.
Specialized Skills
Knowledge of Transmission Operations and Planning with specific background in four of the following areas: Transmission switching, distribution substation switching, substation maintenance, substation protective relay operation, settings, and testing, load flow analysis, reliability reporting, system event/outage analysis and investigation. Must be proficient in PC spreadsheet and database applications. Experience with utility energy management systems desired. Excellent oral/written communication skills and effective speaking/presentation abilities.
