Senior Accountant (Level VI)

Description

To ensure the overall quality of financial reporting. This position includes responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the financial statements that are in compliance with GAAP. Additionally, this position will perform accounting/treasury functions for GSOC Operations and will lead special projects as assigned by the Controller. This position is recognized as an expert within the organization, within its own functions, able to solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business operations and contributes to the development of functional strategy of the department.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare and review financial statements. Prepare and review journal entries to ensure all costs, revenues and balance sheet items are recorded in accordance with GAAP. Perform all functions involved in the month-end closing process including maintaining and review of the general ledger. Complete balance sheet reconciliations monthly. Prepare/review A/P vouchers. Generate interface from external bank via Infor bank feed for check clearing posting and complete all cash reconciliations. Review outstanding check information and follow up with appropriate parties.
  • Provide variance analysis for monthly operating report. Conduct other analytical and special financial projects at the request of GSOC management. Budget preparation assistance including analysis and cost estimates.
  • Perform the billing function for costs billed to internal customers and third-party billings. Includes collection of all outstanding receivables and reconciling accounts receivable aging report to general ledger. Invoice and reconcile all intercompany receivable and payable accounts.
  • Assist with the annual audit and the compilation of the annual report. This may include preparing supporting schedules for the audit, and financial statements, footnotes, and narrative for the annual report.
  • Assist with general ledger Infor system maintenance of accounts and structures. Work with Information Technology group on system implementations, testing and upgrades as needed. Serve as backup/partner to GSOC Accounting and Business Analyst with accounting related maintenance of Infor, Prophix, Business Objects and other financial applications.
  • Review and edit for publication all financial statements, general ledgers, and trial balances for the monthly close. Assist with completion of operation processes and tasks for monthly operating report.
  • Serve as backup for Ops and SS accounting functions and assist with some Treasury items, such as check inquiry, stop payments, and wire information, etc., as needed.
  • Perform misc. functions and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Experience: 10+ years of accounting experience in a medium to large corporation or public accounting firm.

Equivalent Experience: MBA or CPA with five years' experience.

Specialized Skills: Proficient in operation of personal computers and 10-key adding machine. Working knowledge of on-line general ledger system and query tools. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and problem-solving capabilities. Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Strong technology skills.

Unusual Hours: Occasional overtime required to meet Monthly Operating Report and Annual Report deadline. Annual audit may also require some overtime hours.
