The Security Applications team plays a key role in developing, maintaining, and integrating applications that support the secure and reliable operation of the electric grid. The Security Applications team serves as a catalyst for GSOC Power Technology by driving automation and efficiency to support the unique needs of security, compliance, and operations. To perform this essential function, the developers must possess strong problem-solving capabilities, keen curiosity, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing technologies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Job Duties:
- Developer I:
- Contributes to the development of bug fixes and enhancements to custom applications.
- Assists with the customization of commercial software through the development of custom scripts, dashboards, queries, regular expressions, etc.
- Develops new features to existing applications alongside or under the direction of senior team members.
- Develops documentation of processes and applications for dissemination to end users and amongst the Security Applications team.
- Coordinates with senior team members and other stakeholders to ensure testing prior functionality is placed into production.
- Coordinates with senior team members for code review exercises.
- Developer II:
- Develops bug fixes and enhancements to custom applications.
- Customizes commercial software through the development of custom scripts, dashboards, queries, regular expressions, etc.
- Develops new features to support evolving security, compliance, and operational requirements.
- Develops and helps in review of submitted documentation of processes and applications for dissemination to end uses and amongst the Security Applications team.
- Develops test cases and ensures new code is tested before being placed into production.
- Participates in code review exercises.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
Experience:
- Developer I: Less than 2 years of related experience.
- Developer II: At least 2 years of demonstrated experience.
Equivalent Experience:
- Developer I:
- Associates degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 or more years of related experience, OR
- High school diploma with 4 or more years of related experience.
- Developer II:
- Bachelor's degree in a non-related discipline with 4 or more years of demonstrated experience, OR
- Associate's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 4 or more years of demonstrated experience, OR
- High school diploma with 6 or more years of demonstrated experience.
Specialized Skills: To perform this essential function, the Developer II must possess strong problem-solving capabilities, keen curiosity, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing technologies, procedures, and compliance requirements. Must be able to pass a NERC CIP personnel risk assessment screening. To succeed in this role, the Developer II should have the following skills and experience:
- Web development using one or more modern MVC frameworks. Experience with PHP frameworks, such a Laravel, is strongly preferred.
- Scripting using languages such as PowerShell and Python.
- Knowledge of REST and Web Services APIs.
- Experience writing regular expressions.
- Experience with the .NET framework and C# is desired but not required.
- Experience with JavaScript frameworks is desired but not required.
Travel: 5%. Occasional travel for training, conferences, or state associations may be required.
Unusual Hours: Occasional overtime may be required. Supports customers, incident response processes, and systems after hours, as needed.
